ARTS AND CRAFTS: ORIGIN OF THE WORDS
The Arts and Crafts
Movement originated in Britain during the second half of the 19th century and
was characterised by a style of decoration reminiscent of medieval times. The main
artist was William Morris, reinforced with writings from John Ruskin. Arts and
Crafts focused on the quality of craftsmanship. The arts, it was believed,
could influence the economic reform.
OUR WORKS
Before Christmas, we started to decorate our classrooms and corridors with these huge and shinny stars. I hope you like them! Our first activity through History was about the Celts, that is, Stonehenge. The students did a great job drawing the stones and using watercolours to finish their paintings.
Now we are moving on to Ancient Egypt. The children started drawing half of King Tut's mask. It was a hard task, but they all completed it with great results.
We are almost done with Ancient Greece. We tried to reproduce the classical order. The students have been working on their columns for these past weeks. These three architectural orders, Doric, Ionic and Corinthian, are not bad reproductions at all.
Finally, we dedicated this last term to the Roman Empire. Our students tried to reproduce the ancient art of mosaics. This is their final result. Good job!
After Rome, we moved on to the Renaissance. Here are some examples of stained-glass windows from the Gothic movement.
And we are finally approaching this great genius called Leonardo Da Vinci. Our task was very difficult this time, but our students did an amazing job. I am so proud of them all… They never stopped trying. Congratulations!!!
Moving on, we decided to work on one of Velázquez's greatest works, 'The meninas'. Here, our students designed a new representation of a single Menina, actually showing loads of creativity.
After Velázquez, Seurat and his special technique, puntillism, arrived. 'Le Bec du Hoc' is presented here by our patient children. Nice job!
Another Spanish artist and the creator of a new style, cubism. Picasso's portraits are represented here by our students.
To say goodbye to Primary school, our students prepared this voluntary work based on a more contemporary artist from our land, Eusebio Sempere. Here we can enjoy some examples of his work, 'The four seasons', based on Vivaldi's masterpiece.
Halloween is back and we have decided to decorate our English classroom wall with this spooky wallpaper. I hope you like it.
For Halloween we made these crazy bottles. We used kitchen paper, glue, water and paint. Here is the result:
This is our first work this year. You have done a very good job, I have to say. These pictures bellow are the most creative ones in my opinion. Congratulations to all the students who have finished their artwork!
